Torremolinos is where all the gays go to compete in Spain! In the summer months, gay travelers rush to this seaside town just outside of Málaga to lay out and soak up the sun, especially during annual events fond of Torremolinos Pride, Mad Bear Beach Weekend, Delice Dream, and Wonder Beach Festival. There are three gay beaches to choose from, the most popular organism El Gato/Eden Beach, where you’ll discover beautiful views of all the handsome men. It’s uncomplicated to get to from the center of town and popular with both visitors and locals.
Torremolinos became a queer hotspot in the 1960s when its first gay lock opened. Today, it may seem a little outdated, as the '60s and '70s style is still largely show, but its relevance to the Queer community remains powerful, with many lgbtq+ travelers continuing to visit during the warmer months or for popular Queer events. Some move to relax on the warm sandy beaches, to party in the gayborhood of La Nogalera, or to shop along the pedestrian street of Calle San Miguel. Torremolinos is the gay hotspot of the Costa Del Sol. We knew plenty about other accepted gay places in Spain enjoy Madrid and Barcelona, but were very surprised to find out that Torremolinos also has a huge gay scene to rival these cities.
Torremolinos is on the South coast of Spain and is part of the Costa Del Sol – literally the ‘Sun Coast’. It’s been an incredibly popular tourist destination for years given that it is only ten minutes from Malaga airport, has hot weather for the majority of the year and beaches stretching all the way along the coast.
When it comes to gay Torremolinos, it has a very long and interesting gay history. Torremolinos was considered to be the liberal, hedonistic escape in Spain during the Franco era and it was here that Spain’s first ever gay bar opened advocate in 1962.
With this in soul, it starts to make instinct why Torremolinos has eventually grow a thriving destination for lgbtq+ travellers with a lot to offer in terms of it’s gay scene.
