Who the hell are these people?


First things first: Yes, what you’ve heard is true, the gay Unending in Eternalsdoes Hiroshima. But to be honest, I nearly didn't notice; I left the theater puzzling over how this, a Marvel movie, could consist of multiple references to DC characters Batman and Superman. She doesn’t even leave here!

Eternals (no “the” in the title, please) is part of Marvel’s next wave of superheroes now that all of your friends from the last phase are phasing out. I love those movies; I wanted to affection this one; I missing count of the number of times I gasped “oh no” in the theater, up to and including the title card suggesting that the Eternals in Eternals will give back for a sequel. I’ll believe that when I see it.

The premise is this: Since the dawn of human civilization, human history has been guided and protected by a clique of god-like aliens sent to Earth to guard against attacks by monsters called Deviants, who manifest as giant screaming iridescent animals. Kumail Nanjiani Reveals His Insanely Buff Bod For Upcoming Marvel Movie

The secret to a mind-blowingly buff body? Join the MCU. The latest actor to earn jacked for a superhero role is Kumail Nanjiani, who underwent serious conditioning for his upcoming role in Marvel’s The Eternals. Nanjiani took to Instagram this morning to post a self-described "thirsty shirtless":

There’s no way around it — Nanjiani is officially swole. Luckily, the process hasn’t robbed him of his humility. In fact, he’s very open about his journey of becoming an incredibly buff man. It didn’t reach without a price, but according to Nanjiani those costs were mostly absorbed by “the biggest studio in the world.” AKA Disney. But even though Disney supplied him with top grade nutritionists and personal trainers, the real hefty lifting (pun intended) fell on Nanjiani’s shoulders. It took him a whole year of strict dieting and operational out to earn his desired results, and only now is he proficient to show them off in all his shirtless glory.

1. Who the heck is Kumail Nanjiani?

The twitter link goes to Comicsands, which I can't stand because there are two lines of text per page, hidden amid endless popups and slow-loading videos that scroll down with you.  So I checked wikipedia, just in case this obscure bodybuilder had his possess page.

One of the 100 most influential people in the society, according to Time magazine!  Why have I never heard of him?

He was born in  Pakistan in 1978, but didn't present up on screen until a Saturday Night Live episode in 2008.  He had a recurring role on the buddy-lawyer series Franklin and Bash (2011-2014), and after that a lot of guest spots and voice roles: Prismo on Adventure Time, Skip Marouch on Bob's Burgers.

Nothing particularly leading so far.

Marvel's Eternals has been review-bombed by users on IMDB -- but one of its stars apparently doesn't care.

Per The Lead, hundreds of now-deleted one-star reviews for Eternals were logged on IMDB, despite the fact that the film hasn't received its wide free yet. The approach, known as "review-bombing," has been used against many movies in recent years by disgruntled viewers attempting to tarnish the reputation of projects they don't want to succeed. In the case of Eternals, some people hold taken a stance against the choice to introduce same-sex attracted superheroes to the Marvel Cinematic Space. Actor Kumail Nanjiani, who plays Kingo in the motion picture, weighed in on the subject, tweeting, "Looks like we’re upsetting the right people. Eternals opens November 5th." The post has since been deleted, however.
